Covid-19: This Is The New Normal

It’s true…because of Covid-19 this is the new normal…welcome!

This is the new normal thanks to Covid-19 – you should be prepared. Your voice talent should too.

The good news – we’ve already been doing it. The bad news…nobody knows what next!

What does the new normal mean in terms of marketing? Great question.

Here’s a little joke I heard – if April/May/June you could interview January you (think about what you’d tell yourself 6 months ago about the past few?) Anyway, one of the punchlines of this joke was BUY STOCK IN ZOOM!! So many meetings are happening via Zoom – BECAUSE BUSINESS IS NOT SHUTTING DOWN! Marketing is still happening – it’s just happening differently now…and it’s not going to change anytime soon (maybe not until 2021.)

What does that mean for your voice talent?

a) It means they MUST have a personal studio – MUST!!! Many studios are shutting down because it’s very difficult to sanitize a mic – ya know?

b) It means the talent must have a digital way to connect with the client (SourceConnect, ISDN, ipDTL, Skype, Zoom, SessionLink Pro, ConnectionOpen or even a phone patch.) I prefer SourceConnect myself.

c) Be more flexible! You’re working from home, the campground, the beach, the in-laws & any other place…so embrace it.

d) This is for anyone but you need great internet! I was at the lake & there was no internet because of location – I did sessions via hotspot because as they say – the show must go on!

In a nutshell – what is the new normal? It’s what you’re doing now & have been for the past 3 months. It’s NORMAL. You must market. You must continue to create. Business will (and must) continue. Things are just different now. That’s ok…if you’re prepared for it because it is after COVID-19: THE NEW NORMAL!

Embrace Tech In 2020 – It’s Time

Look around because tech is everywhere – it’s time to embrace tech in 2020!

Many apps allow you to not only work & be productive remotely but do an entire project from your phone. We see many videos shot (mostly by Apple) on iPhone – audio is much the same. Apogee has a great sounding Mic that connects directly to iPhone or iPad. IT SOUNDS AMAZING!

Look at this waveform – it looks amazing! ZERO noise & it was cut in my Tahoe with the mic & my phone (and it was in my clients inbox before I shifted to drive because of my lightening fast WiFi).

Notice how clean that looks? How full the waveform is? Believe it or not but this was cut with the mic on the center council of & my jacket behind me to absorb some bounce back.

By now you may be asking “why is he writing this?” Fair question to which my answer is simple…

Just because someone isn’t in the studio 9a-9p now-a-days because of conferences or meetings doesn’t mean they a) can’t get your copy cut quickly  b) the audio is not still amazing c) tech is here to help!

The voiceover community did embrace tech in 2020 (ok…it’s been time for many years.) How does this affect you? Simple…don’t be afraid to send copy or ask to direct a session because of tech we can work for you…with you. Phone patches via cell phone – no problem. Directed sessions from a hotel room – no problem. Turn around projects anywhere – no problem. If a voice talent refuses (which I have yet to meet one) you should move on!

Welcome To 2020 – Now It’s Time To Get Back To Work

Where did the holiday’s go? Now that 2019 is over, it’s time to get back to work in 2020!

That’s good & bad!

Let’s look at why it’s bad:

  1. You’re supposed reflect on the previous year & grow – if you haven’t reflected by now…it may be a little too late to start 2020 off on a new foot.
  2. If you’re like me, I really hate how blah January is…of course as I write this I look out my window & see sun (what a shock.)
  3. I almost forgot this one…TAXES! ‘Nuff said.

Why is it good?

  1. You can still start working out to lose weight like you said you were going to do in your New Year’s Resolution – BTW…the gyms are PACKED right now!
  2. Everything is new! New month…new beginnings…it’s new! Just like that new car you wanted to buy last year…but didn’t.
  3. HERE’S THE BIG ONE – now that you’ve past the holidays and had some time off you can start with fresh creative ideas. You weren’t so worried about running here…or getting this gift for Aunt Betty while also trying to your 40 hours in. YOU’RE REFRESHED! What a concept! I feel so refreshed it’s unbelievable! I feel more energized than I have in a while.

So…what has been going on lately? I got to work on a great campaign for the New Jersey Lottery for the holidays – take a peek (it’s only :15 seconds)

That’s just a snapshot of course…daily I’m providing excellent service to all my regular clients while continuing to train and market my amazing demos.

Where has 2019 gone?

I have begun working for the holiday’s (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year’s) and it’s not (officially) November…yet. I’ve already been cutting IVR updates for the holiday’s (the first was All Star Vet) with modified hours for Thanksgiving.

A number of clients have already been sending in Black Friday specials…yes some clients have started the holiday discounts. If you haven’t started planning for the holidays I’m here for you (fully produced are not a problem) so say hi HERE!

The holiday marketing boom is here! I’ve had a lot of scripts coming in for the holiday season & now is the time to strike! Keep in mind you’re planning for your holidays SO ARE YOUR MARKETING PARTNERS! If you do tv, radio or digital the avails are getting pretty picked over. Keep that in mind!

Have a great Halloween – please share your pics of your costumes because I love ’em!! I can’t dress up this year but I may barrow your costume next year 😉

Moved The Studio…Don’t Worry

My personal studio used to be on the 2nd floor but after the really warm end of summer I decided to move my studio down to the 1st floor. It was A LOT of work but work that was needed.

The studio is now a larger space which made soundproofing a little more of a challenge but one I accepted – after a few tweaks over a few weeks I’ve got it sounding just like the old location.

I thought about posting pics…but it doesn’t look any different…it’s EXACTLY the same so that’s to your advantage.
